In most cities, cleaning a bicycle is something you do because it looks better. Here it is the maintenance that decides how long a drivetrain lasts.
A chain does not usually fail from lack of lubrication. It wears because hard particles get between the rollers and the pins and grind them, stretching the chain until it no longer matches the cassette. Wind-blown sand is exactly that, and it is extremely fine — it gets past seals, into housings, and into every bearing on the bike.
Rinsing the frame does nothing about it. Getting it out of the drivetrain and the housings does.

When this is not the job you need
A repair business that only ever says "book it in" is not worth trusting on anything else. These are the cases where you should not.
- If the drivetrain is already worn past its limit, cleaning it will not restore shifting and we will say so.
- Most people are better off with a Wash & Tune — once the drivetrain is clean, tuning it takes minutes and costs less than two visits.

Is cleaning a bicycle actually worth paying for?
In Dubai, yes. The sand you rinse out is the same sand grinding your chain and cassette into scrap. Elsewhere cleaning is cosmetic; here it is the single largest thing you can do to make a drivetrain last.
How often should I clean my bike here?
It depends far more on where you ride than how far. As a working rule: if the chain looks grey rather than metallic, or you can hear grit when you backpedal, it is overdue.
Do you bring water?
Yes — water, degreaser and containment. Nothing goes down your building drain and nothing is left behind.
