E-bike speed limiting to UAE legal spec

Returning a derestricted bike to legal spec. We do not do the reverse.

A derestricted e-bike is not a faster bicycle. Legally it stops being a bicycle at all, and that reclassification is the part that catches people out.

Plenty of bikes are sold here already derestricted, sometimes without the buyer being told. The first they know is a building management letter or an insurer declining a claim.

What we will and will not do

We will return a bike to legal spec and give you written confirmation of what was changed, which is what an insurer or a building manager will actually ask for.

We will not remove a limiter, and that is not a negotiating position.

What the job involves

What this involves

  • Current configuration readWhat the controller is actually set to, rather than what the seller claimed.
  • Limiter restoredAssist cut-off returned to the legal threshold for the UAE.
  • Written confirmationSo you have something to show an insurer or a building manager.

When this is not the job you need

A repair business that only ever says "book it in" is not worth trusting on anything else. These are the cases where you should not.

  • We will not derestrict a bike. Not for any price — it is illegal to ride here, uninsurable, and we would be liable.
  • If a bike was sold to you already derestricted, that is worth raising with the seller as well as fixing.

Common questions

Can you make my e-bike faster?

No. Removing a speed limiter makes the bike illegal to ride in the UAE and voids any insurance on it, and we will not do it at any price. We can do the opposite — return a derestricted bike to legal spec.

Why does it matter if my e-bike is derestricted?

Beyond legality, most building and community rules and every insurer treat a derestricted e-bike as a motor vehicle. In an incident that distinction decides who pays, and it is not the kind of thing you want to discover afterwards.
